REM – REAL EAR MEASUREMENT TEST

New hearing aids, re-fitted, returned from repair, adjusted, new earmold/dome installed need to be determined that soft sound is audible, speech sound is accessible and loud sounds are not over amplified.

When it comes to ensuring the optimal performance of new hearing aids, adjustments, repairs, or the installation of new earmolds/domes, one crucial step is the Real Ear Measurement (REM) test. This evidence-based method is indispensable for assessing how effectively hearing aids deliver amplification in the client’s ears.

REM serves as a vital tool in confirming that soft sounds are audible, speech sounds are accessible, and loud sounds are appropriately amplified. Without this test, there’s a risk of hearing aid users receiving either insufficient or excessive volume at different frequencies, leading to suboptimal hearing outcomes.

One of the critical consequences of inadequate amplification is reduced audibility, which significantly impacts speech understanding, especially in challenging listening environments like background noise. REM ensures that the amount of gain provided by hearing aids is precisely tailored to the individual’s hearing needs, thereby improving speech understanding performance in various listening situations.

By conducting REM tests, we can fine-tune the settings of hearing aids to optimize their performance and enhance the wearer’s overall auditory experience. This evidence-based approach underscores our commitment to delivering personalized and effective hearing care solutions that meet the unique needs of each client.
